Simpson’s Soria, Georgia Gwinnett College’s James Receive CAC Softball Player of the Week Awards

Simpson University (California) junior Kassandra Soria and Georgia Gwinnett College senior Kailynn James have been named the Continental Athletic Conference Softball Players of the Week following strong performances in the final weeks of the spring season.

Soria, the Hitter of the Week, batted .667 (8-for-12), had two RBI and scored two runs in leading Simpson to a 3-1 record against fellow CAC opponent La Sierra University (California).

The infielder went 3-for-4 in a 6-1 victory in the opener of the doubleheader last Friday. Soria collected two hits in the second game and series finale.

James, the Pitcher of the Week, was dominant inside the pitching circle against two teams featured in the NAIA Top 25 poll. She tossed two shutouts and recorded 20 strikeouts for the week.

The right hander had 10 strikeouts and allowed just three hits in a 1-0 shutout victory against No. 3 University of the Cumberlands (Kentucky) last Wednesday. James followed that up with another 10 strikeouts while scattering four hits in a 5-0 win last Friday against Thomas University (Georgia), a team receiving national poll votes. The 10 strikeouts matched her career high.
