Penn State Schuylkill’s Stokes, Florida National’s Hay Garner CAC Softball Players of the Week Honors
Penn State Schuylkill third-year player Meghan Stokes and Florida National University senior Gabryella Hay have earned the Continental Athletic Conference softball Hitter and Pitcher of the Week awards.
Stokes hit a remarkable .733 (11-for-15) in a four-game road series last Friday and Saturday against CAC member Fisher College (Massachusetts). The Winchester, Virginia, native started with a 4-for-4 performance, with five runs batted in, and followed with a 3-for-3 game at the plate. She then went 4-for-8 with five RBI and four runs scored in sweeping the final two games.
For the week, Stokes also scored 10 runs. She has helped Penn State Schuylkill start the season with a 6-3 record.
Hay, the Pitcher of the Week, went 4-0 and posted a 1.88 earned run average in a pair of wins against Ave Maria University (Florida) last Wednesday and Indiana Tech last Friday.
The Little River Academy, Texas, native allowed just nine runs in her 26 innings in the pitching circle. Hay tossed a three-hit shutout in an 11-0 victory in five innings against Ave Maria and then allowed just one run across seven innings in a 9-1 win in the second game of the doubleheader. Two days later she held Indiana Tech to just one run in another seven-inning performance.
Hay has a 13-4 record with a 3.03 ERA in 16 starts this spring. She has tossed 117.2 innings among her 19 appearances. The senior also contributes to Florida National's offense with a .348 batting average, nine doubles, two home runs, and 18 RBI. That has helped the Conquistadors to a 18-8 record this spring.
