Florida National’s Burdon, Spartanburg Methodist’s Sowell Named CAC Women’s Outdoor Track Athletes of the Week

A pair of freshmen have begun their outdoor track and field careers by collecting the Continental Athletic Conference Women's Outdoor Track Player of the Week awards.

Florida National University's Khy Burdon received the Athlete of the Week honor, while Spartanburg Methodist College's (South Carolina) Mackenna Sowell was named the Field Athlete of the Week.

Burdon posted a school record and personal best time in the 100- and 200-meter races as the Conquistadors opened the season at the Nova Southeastern University Shark Invite. The Orlando native had a time of 12.67 in the 100-meter dash, while recorded a 26.47 time in the 200-meter run. Burdon also contributed to a leg of the team's 4x400-meter relay unit.

Meanwhile, Sowell recorded the best throws in the CAC this season in the shot put (7.46 meters) and discuss (22.22 meters) as the Pioneers competed in the Southern Wesleyan University/Susan Rouse Invite last Saturday.
