Georgia Gwinnett College Sweeps CAC Women’s Soccer Weekly POW Awards

Strong performances during a busy and productive week have resulted in Georgia Gwinnett College sophomore Cecilie Povlsen and junior Ayano Kurosawa sweeping the Continental Athletic Conference Women's Soccer Player of the Week awards.

Povlsen, the offensive honoree, scored three goals over the weekend to pace the No. 24-ranked Grizzlies to consecutive 3-0 road victories. She netted the first two goals in a win at No. 8 Cumberland University (Tennessee) last Saturday.

The Bording, Denmark, native came off the bench to score a goal with 28 seconds left in the first half and then gave the Grizzlies a 2-0 advantage with a goal in the 55th minute of the match against nationally ranked teams.

Povlsen then added a goal during the first half of Sunday's win against Brescia University (Kentucky). The goals were the first of her 2024 season and matched her career high.

Kurosawa, the defensive award recipient, was sensational in front of the GGC goal by matching a career-high 11 saves in posting the shutout at Cumberland. The high-powered Phoenix lead NAIA teams by scoring 49 goals and having 147 points so far this season.

The Sagamihara, Japan, native posted a pair of wins for the week. She kept Brescia off the scoreboard for 61 minutes of action on Sunday.

Kurosawa helped the Grizzlies win their first match over a ranked opponent since 2022 and 11th time in program history.
