University of Victoria Claims 2022 CAC Women’s Golf Championship Title

A model of consistency helped the University of Victoria (British Columbia) cruise to top honors at the 2022 Continental Athletic Conference women's golf championship in a 36-hole event played at the Burlington Golf Club.

The Vikes carded consistent rounds of 322 and 321 to win the title by 38 strokes over University of Houston-Victoria (Texas). The team's Head Coach Justin Clews earned CAC Coach of the Year honors.

RESULTS

Victoria finished the two days with a 643-team score. Our Lady of the Lake University (Texas) placed third with a 688 score to be followed by Iowa Wesleyan University at 760 and Cottey College (Missouri) at 763.

Individually, Sukriti Harjai led the Vikes with a second-place finish after posting a two-round 157 score. Mirai Hayashi was third at 160 and Kat Hodgson tied for fourth place with a 162 score, including a three-over-par 75 stroke score in Tuesday's final round.

Houston-Victoria was led by tournament medalist Jenna Alvardo, who defeated Harjai in a playoff after carding 79 and 78 rounds. Alvardo's teammate Mia Lerma tied for fourth place at 162 to assist the team's balanced effort.

Our Lady of the Lake was led by Ceci Lattuada's seventh-place finish behind a 167-stroke composite score. Teammate Annabelle Reyna placed eighth at 170.

As the 2022 CAC champion University of Victoria (British Columbia) will represent the conference in the NAIA National Championships May 24-27 at the Lincoln Park West Golf Course in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma. Alvardo, as medalist, has also qualified for the national championship.
