Underclassmen Garner CAC Women’s Basketball Weekly Awards

Strong all-around performances by Georgia Gwinnett College freshman Christal Collins and Arkansas Baptist College sophomore Ta'Mya Hughes earned the Continental Athletic Conference Women's Basketball Players of the Week awards.

Collins, the offensive honoree, averaged 15.5 points, with a career-high 20 points, to lead the Grizzlies to two victories in last weekend's CAC Classic at GGC. She collected five rebounds and four assists to go with the 20-point performances while coming off a bench. That helped the team score a program-record 115 points in last Saturday's Classic finale. The guard made 50 percent of her field goals (13-for-26) to help extend the Grizzlies' winning streak to 10 consecutive games.

Hughes, the defensive recipient, had eight steals as the Buffaloes split two games during the week. The Little Rock, Arkansas, native scored 25 points and had four steals in an 86-82 win against Wiley University (Texas) last Saturday. The guard also had four steals to go along with five rebounds in a 70-65 loss to Stillman College (Alabama) last Thursday.
