Spartanburg Methodist’s Gilliam, Northern New Mexico’s Salazar Named CAC Women’s Basketball Players of the Week
Spartanburg Methodist College (South Carolina) junior Najah Gilliam and Northern New Mexico College senior Miranda Salazar have opened the final month of the regular season by collecting the Continental Athletic Conference Women's Basketball Player of the Week awards.
Gilliam, the offensive honoree, nearly had a triple-double performance in the Pioneers' 72-71 win over Johnson & Wales University (North Carolina) last Wednesday. She scored 20 points, grabbed eight rebounds and had eight assists in the one-point triumph.
The guard made eight of her 16 field goals and all three of her free throw attempts in the contest.
Salazar, the defensive honoree, helped the Eagles secure two wins over CAC opponents in games played at Haskell Indian Nations University (Kansas). The Alcalde, New Mexico, native averaged nine points, 6.5 rebounds and 5.5 steals per game.
The guard made 75% of her shots from the floor to score 12 points in the team's 83-50 win against Arkansas Baptist College last Friday. Salazar added six steals in that contest.
Salazar then made both of her free throw attempts, while grabbing nine rebounds and five steals in the Eagles' 70-59 triumph against Florida National University on the next day.
