Florida National’s Marty Marrero, Spartanburg Methodist’s Bell Collect CAC Women’s Basketball Player of the Week Awards

A triple-double and stingy defensive performances have led Florida National University senior Janelisse Marty Marrero and Spartanburg Methodist College (South Carolina) junior Zy Bell to collect the Continental Athletic Conference Women's Basketball Player of the Week awards.

Marty Marrero, the offensive recipient, had a triple-double performance with 30 points, 13 rebounds and 10 assists in the Conquistadors' 81-55 victory against Trinity College (Florida) last Friday. The guard averaged 26.5 points, 14 rebounds and 6.5 assists across two performances for the week.

The San Juan, Puerto Rico, native connected on 12 of 25 field goals, including four of 10 3-point field goals, in the Trinity game.

Then, Marty Marrero scored 23 points on a perfect 6-of-6 outcome from the free throw line against Webber International University (Florida) last Monday. She also grabbed 15 rebounds in that game.

Bell, the defensive recipient, was a force on the floor while shutting down two potent offensive performers from Pioneers' opponents. She also averaged five rebounds across two outings.

As the team's primary defender, the guard limited Columbia College (South Carolina) leading scorer Keyshuna Fair to 11 points on 4 of 18 field goals and 2 of 12 3-point field goals in a double-overtime contest last Tuesday. Fair entered the game shooting 42% overall making 38% of her 3-point field goal attempts.

Then, Bell held Thomas University (Georgia) leading scorer Kennedy Collins to four points on 2 of 9 shooting, including 0 of 6 in 3-pointers, in a 69-60 win last Friday. Collins had been averaging 15.9 points on 43.6% shooting overall and 40% in 3-pointers.
