Juniors Garner CAC Men’s Basketball Weekly Awards to Close January
Juniors from Carolina University (North Carolina) and Florida National University have garnered the Continental Athletic Conference Men's Basketball Player of the Week awards as the calendar flips past January for the 2025-26 schedule.
Carolina's DJ Evans, the offensive honoree, helped the Bruins win two games during a trip to South Florida, averaging 19 points and shooting 41.4 percent from the floor. The New Hope, Minnesota, native scored 20 points on 7-of-14 shooting in a 70-65 victory against Florida National last Friday. The guard followed with an 18-point performance against the University of Fort Lauderdale (Florida) on the next day.
Florida National's Ronald Fernandez, the defensive recipient, had performances that helped the Conquistadors snap an eight-game losing streak. The Miami native had a double-double with 10 points and 11 rebounds in a 76-72 victory against Haskell Indian Nations University (Kansas) last Saturday. The forward also recorded three steals and averaged 8.5 points and 9.5 rebounds per contest across two games.
