Upperclassmen Claim CAC Baseball Weekly Awards to Conclude March
Georgia Gwinnett College junior Payton Fort and Westcliff University (California) senior Cameron Witte have earned the last Continental Athletic Conference Baseball Player of the Week awards of March.
Fort, the Hitter of the Week, led the Grizzlies to three victories by connecting on three home runs, driving in nine runs and scoring an additional six runs. The infielder from Council Bluffs, Iowa, batted .571 and had three multiple-hit performances to post a .571 batting average across four games last week. Fort hit a pair of homers, marking GGC's first multiple home run game of the season. This happened after he had a pair of three-hit games. Those performances helped the team sweep a three-game series at Cumberland University (Tennessee) last weekend.
Witte, the Pitcher of the Week, opened a weekend series against CAC rival Simpson University (California) by tossing seven shutout innings with 10 strikeouts last Friday. The Eagle River, Alaska, native allowed six hits in the dominant pitching performance. For the week, Witte did not allow a run in eight innings after tossing a scoreless frame in a relief performance against Cal Lutheran last Tuesday.
