Georgia Gwinnett College’s Harrell, Fisher’s Melendez Named CAC Baseball Players of the Week
Productive performances on the diamond have had Georgia Gwinnett College junior Alex Harrell and Fisher College (Massachusetts) junior Jan Melendez being named the Continental Athletic Conference Baseball Players of the Week.
Harrell, the Hitter of the Week, was instrumental in the Grizzlies posting a 5-0 record for the week. In those five games, he hit .611 (11-for-18), scored 11 runs and drove in an additional 10 runs. Harrell went 4-for-5 with a pair of runs scored in the Grizzlies' 14-4 win against Milligan University (Tennessee) last Tuesday.
The outfielder then scored four times in last Friday's opener of the CAC Showdown, hosted by GGC in Lawrenceville, Georgia. The Paragould, Arkansas, native drove in seven runs and scored three runs during a 3-for-4 performance in the team's 20-7 opening-game win against Spartanburg Methodist College (South Carolina) last Saturday.
Melendez, the Pitcher of the Week, picked up two victories as the Falcons went 5-1 last week. The left hander tossed two compete games and posted a 1.29 earned run average.
The Yabucoa, Puerto Rico, native had six strikeouts and allowed two hits in seven innings against West Virginia Tech last Monday. He followed with six strikeouts while scattering two hits in a seven-inning victory against Bryant & Stratton-Albany (New York) last Saturday.
