Spartanburg Methodist’s Lopez, Florida National’s Philips Named CAC Baseball Players of the Week
Spartanburg Methodist College (South Carolina) freshman Leo Lopez and Florida National University sophomore Cole Philips have garnered the Continental Athletic Conference Baseball Player of the Week awards for strong performances on the diamond.
Lopez, the Hitter of the Week, had a hit in all five games last week for the Pioneers, posting a .455 batting average and .545 slugging percentage. The Greer, South Carolina, native recorded 10 hits, scored four runs and drove in six runs in the games.
The infielder had three multiple-hit games, with four hits coming in the series opener against St. Andrews University (North Carolina) last Saturday.
Philips, the Pitcher of the Week, took care of business on the mound for the Conquistadors in a two-game sweep against Miami University Hamilton (Ohio). The right hander picked up the victory in the 7-5 triumph, with four strikeouts in two innings last Tuesday.
For the week, the Milton, Ontario, Canada, native had a 1-0 record without allowing an earned run and had five strikeouts across three innings in two games.
